Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard as their new manager a couple of days ago but he failed to make a winning start.

The Blues took on Irish side Bohemian FC this past week and the match ended with a scoreline of 1-1 with Michy Batshuayi getting the only goal for the Blues.

Frank Lampard set up his side to play attacking football but most of the big stars were missing from the first game since the likes of Willian and Christian Pulisic are still on holidays.

The Blues were hit by an 89th-minute equaliser and speaking after the match, Frank Lampard revealed that fitness was the primary reason why the Blues looked a bit lacklustre on the pitch.

Frank Lampard said(as reported by talkSPORT): “It was a good run-out, we had good support and thanks for people turning out. It was a tough first game for us as we have not been back for long.

“We’ve only been back just a few days so there had been some pressure on the lads and we have been working them very hard. I am pleased with the outcome.

“Fitness was our issue but I wanted to stretch them a bit and put them under pressure.

“This is what pre-season is all about and the quicker we get there, to the level we want, then the better.

“We wanted to win the game as you always do but it is not about that.”

Chelsea will take on St Patrick’s Atheltic on Saturday at Richmond Park following which Frank Lampard will have to set up his side to face the big boys.

Later this month, the Blues will take on Barcelona in a club friendly following which they will also face the likes of Reading and Salzburg.
