Celtic FC are ready to offer a new deal to their keeper Craig Gordon as the 37-year-old looks to head out in order to get more game time next season. But he could get a new lease of life at Parkhead thanks to Fraser Forster.

Gordon has been with the Bhoys since 2014 but this season he has really fallen down the pecking order at Parkhead and has not featured in a single Premiership game.

St Mirren are keen to add him to their ranks next season and some experts believe the player could head out of Celtic in order to finish his career on a high.

But according to Paul Robinson, the 37-year-old should refrain from making a call on his future until Celtic are able to sign Fraser Forster from Southampton.

Robinson told Football Insider: “I do not think you will see Craig Gordon go anywhere until we find out what is going on with Fraser Forster.

“Southampton have unfairly priced him out of a deal at the moment. We are talking about a player who has not been anywhere near the first-team squad in 12-18 months. He was surplus to requirements.

“I would not be going anywhere if I was Craig Gordon, not until I find out what is going on with Fraser Forster.”

Not only are the Saints asking for a really unreasonable amount of money for Fraser Forster but recent rumours have suggested that a Premier League club have also shown interest in signing the 32-year-old in the summer.

And if these rumours are true then Celtic have really been pushed onto the back seat since Southampton will most certainly want to sell their unwanted keeper to a top English club.

While Celtic do have other targets in mind but they might not be able to get a new keeper on board due to the short transfer window this time around. And in such a scenario, Craig Gordon will once again move up the ladder in case he remains put at Celtic.
