Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has opened up about the prospect of playing in the Scottish Premiership.

Agbonlahor started his career in fine form playing for his childhood club Aston Villa but a series of injuries has forced the striker to churn out average performances season after season.

And finally, after playing for more than a decade with Villa, the now Championship club finally released him at the end of the previous season meaning Agbonlahor is now a free agent.

Some reports during the summer transfer window suggested that the former Premier League star was on his way to the Scottish Premiership as a number of clubs wanted him on board.

Now though, the 32-year-old has made it clear that he has no intentions of moving to Scotland unless Celtic or Rangers come calling for him.

Agbonlahor has also revealed that he has had offers from some Premiership clubs but has declined all of them.

“I appreciate the offers, it just didn’t feel right. As for the SPL, unless it’s one of the big couple of clubs, to be honest, that doesn’t excite me,

“There has been interest from the Middle East, Turkey and Thailand and that new challenge, lifestyle and opportunity interests me but I have a young family and I’m very conscious of the impact playing abroad would have,” Agbonlahor said.

At the start of the decade, Gabby Agbonlahor was touted as the next best big striker for England but his form took a sudden dip during the 2010-11 season and the 32-year-old hasn’t been able to recover since.

Celtic and Rangers are planning to bring in new players during the January transfer window but we don’t feel either of them will make a move for Agbonlahor given the history of injuries that the striker has sustained.
