Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus playing for Brazil

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus is almost destined to leave the club in the summer and as things stand, Arsenal are the frontrunners to signing him.

Jesus’ agent Marcelo Pettinati has admitted that they have held talks with the Emirates outfit and the striker has even shown a liking to Arteta’s future plans at the club but his agent was also quick to indicate that Arsenal are not the only club who are chasing him.

Pettinati has told Fabrizio Romano: “We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus, we like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing

“There are 6 more clubs interested in Gabriel – he’s focused on final games with Man City, we’ll see”.

Can the Gunners get their hands on Jesus?

With the arrival of Erling Haaland, it’s almost certain that Pep Guardiola is going to release Gabriel Jesus in the summer so there’s a very pragmatic chance that Arsenal will be able to get their hands on him.

Ideally, the 25-year-old will want to keep playing in the Champions League but he might ditch this demand because Lacazette and Nketiah will be leaving in the summer so Gabriel Jesus will be able to get uninterrupted game time at Arsenal.

At Man City, he has played in bursts this season despite Guardiola not having a main centre-forward but at a club like Arsenal, he can be the undisputed first-choice centre-forward next season.

His agent has made it clear that the Gunners will have to fend off several other clubs if they are serious about signing him but if the club can secure a UCL spot then no doubt they will be in the driver’s seat.

What will Gabriel Jesus bring to Arsenal?

Aubameyang left in January and Lacazette along with Eddie Nketiah will leave at the end of the season so the centre-forward’s position is up for the taking.

Gabriel Jesus has scored 95 goals in 234 games for Manchester City and this season he’s netted eight and assisted eight goals in 26 Premier League games. These are great numbers given the fact that out of these 26 matches only 19 have been starts.

Apart from playing through the middle, the Brazilian can also operate as a wide player which is a bonus for Mikel Arteta. The Arsenal boss can, in the worst of scenarios, can use Gabriel Martinelli as his striker and deploy Jesus out on the left wing.
