Liverpool managed to hold Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at Anfield on Sunday meaning the Reds are yet to taste defeat in the Premier League this season.

But this match could very well have been the first game where Liverpool suffered their first defeat had Riyad Mahrez not missed a late penalty.

With regular penalty taker Sergio Aguero not available the penalty-taking duties fell on summer signing Riyad Mahrez and the former Leicester man could have sealed a late victory.

But instead of putting the ball into the back of the net, Mahrez blasted the ball high into the sky and thus saving Jurgen Klopp’s men from an embarrassing defeat.

And one person who was not happy with Riyad Mahrez taking the penalty was Gabriel Jesus.

Gabriel Jesus has claimed he was not happy that Pep Guardiola chose Riyad Mahrez over him when allotting penalty duties more so since both of them were practising for penalties.

Gabriel Jesus said“Obviously I’m not happy,

“As Riyad, I’ve been practising (penalties). I would like to have taken it, I was confident, so I was not happy that they did not allow me.

“However, it was important that we didn’t lose.”

In the absence of Aguero, Gabriel Jesus had initially walked up to take the penalty but Pep Guardiola was quick to send out a message asking the young Brazilian to hand over the ball to Riyad Mahrez.

But while Gabriel Jesus has shown his dissatisfaction over the manager’s decision but he was quick to downplay any problems with him, saying:

“Pep spoke with me. This is part of football, sometimes these things happen. I will support Riyad if the manager chooses him again.”

The players head out for the international break and when they come back Manchester City will take on Burnley at home on the 20th of October.
