Rangers vs Leipzig

Rangers FC cruised past Ayr United to enter the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup even though the manager made a number of key changes to his side.

Alfredo Morelos retained his position in the starting line up but those around him saw a major reshuffle with the likes of Middleton and Dorrans coming into the squad.

Rangers beat Ayr 4-0 thanks to goals from Alfredo Morelos and Nikola Katic. But the star of the night was undoubtedly Glenn Middleton who bagged a brace during the match.

Glenn Middleton has so far played nine matches for the Light Blues this season and the 18-year-old has already clocked up three goals.

And speaking about the young winger, Steven Gerrard has claimed that Glenn Middleton is that one player who is making his selection process very difficult due to his constant top-rated performances.

Speaking after the 4-0 win vs Ayr, Gerrard said: “I’ve had this game in my mind for a long time for Glenn, obviously he’s been an impact player for us of late and he’s done terrifically well and this was a game I always had my eye on that he’d go from the beginning,

“He’s done himself no harm and he’s making it really difficult for me at the moment when I’m picking teams and squads because he’s doing everything he can to force his way in.

“He’s a terrific finisher and you always get judged as an attacking player on goals and assists. He’s adding goals to his game and not just looking a threat out wide.”

Next up for Rangers in an away trip to Livingston at the Almondvale Stadium but Glenn Middleton will not make it to the starting line-up and should be replaced by Candeias.
