Is this why Chelsea’s new signing Gonzalo Higuain failed to perform vs Bournemouth?

Chelsea brought in Gonzalo Higuain last week and everyone thought that Maurizio Sarri’s men would finally start scoring goals.

But exactly the opposite happened and the Blues ended up conceding four goals against AFC Bournemouth this midweek.

Maurizio Sarri was full of praise for Gonzalo Higuain before the Argentinian arrived at Chelsea saying: “He’s a very strong striker.

“Especially in my first season in Naples. He did very well. He scored 36 goals in 35 matches in Serie A. That season he scored 39 goals.

“So he did very, very well.

“For sure, he is one of the best strikers in my career.”

But Gonzalo Higuain’s Premier League debut for the club vs the Cherries was one of the worst performances in a Chelsea shirt in recent times.

The Argentine was poor in every aspect as he could neither help build up play nor take shorts at the target.

And after his very first game, a number of fans are already wondering whether Gonzalo Higuain is the right signing for the club.

The Chelsea boss though had the perfect reason as to why the forward could not perform against Bournemouth.

“He can improve a great deal,” he said.

“At this moment, he is not in good shape, probably because he has played very little recently between transfer market distractions and back pain.

“He can grow a great deal over the next few weeks.”

Chelsea will now move welcome Huddersfield on Saturday and if Gonzalo Higuain fails to deliver even during this game then the pressure will start to build – not on the forward but on Maurizio Sarri.
