Chelsea brought in Gonzalo Higuain during the January transfer window on a six-month loan spell from Juventus.
And with that Maurizio Sarri seemed to have the striker which he had desired ever since he arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer.
But despite seeing a lot of game time, Gonzalo Higuain has not been able to stamp his authority on the Premier League.
And speaking before Chelsea’s clash vs West Ham, Maurizio Sarri has claimed that Gonzalo Higuain will need time to settle down in England much like any other foreign player.
“I think he has to improve. It was a problem for Suarez in the first season at Liverpool,” Sarri said(as reported).
“He has to improve physically, mentally, but I think also he will be able to be very useful for us in the last part of the season.
“You know very well that it’s not easy in the first months to play in the Premier League. It was a problem also for Suarez in the first season at Liverpool. He scored only three goals.
“In the second season he scored 24 goals, so it’s not easy, especially for a striker, to play immediately well in the Premier League.
“At the moment he’s in a very good mental and physical condition. We have to play every three days, so we need both.”
Sarri also hinted that keeping Gonzalo Higuain might be his wish but the ultimate decision does not rest on Chelsea.
“Yes of course[when asked about keeping him], but it depends on the club, it depends on Juventus. It’s not clear the situation at the moment.”
It was Olivier Giroud who started the midweek clash vs Brighton while Gonzalo Higuain remained an unused sub.
And many believe that the Frenchman will once again get the nod ahead of Higuain on Monday.
