Arsenal take on Newcastle United at home on Monday and they need to pick up all three points if they wish to stay relevant in the top-four race.

Man United have won their game vs Watford on Saturday which means the Red Devils now occupy the fourth spot on the table.

And the Gunners need to beat the Magpies in order to regain their spot.

But right now, Unai Emery seems to be having a midfielder crisis with a number of his first choice midfielders out injured.

Aaron Ramsey is recovering from an injury and it seems remains to be seen whether the Welshman can make himself fit for Monday.

Another midfielder Lucas Torreira is also suspended for this match and on top of that Granit Xhaka too remains a doubt.

Granit Xhaka has been a constant figure in midfield for Unai Emery this season but the Swiss international is currently out with a groin strain.

Earlier this week, there were serious doubts over his selection vs the Magpies but now it looks like Granit Xhaka could make a return.

The Gunners boss has claimed that Granit Xhaka will go through a late fitness test on Monday and chances are the midfield could be named in the matchday squad.

He said: “We trained this morning and some players rested for giving them one day more to train with us tomorrow. Aaron Ramsey, Mavropanos. They can be ready for Monday.

“Xhaka also rested today, we’re going to wait [until] tomorrow and Sunday but the first previews from the doctor is that he can progress to be ready for Monday.”

If Granit Xhaka cannot make himself fit for Monday then surely Matteo Guendouzi will start in central midfield alongside loanee Denis Suarez who just might be given his first start since moving to the Emirates from Barcelona.
