Arsenal were humiliated at the Etihad Stadium this weekend by Manchester City.

The Gunners lost the game 3-1 and with that, they have now slipped to sixth on the Premier League table.

It was shambolic defending from the Arsenal defence and all the good work done by the midfielder went absolutely in vain.

Many fans have urged Unai Emery to get rid of the ageing defensive line but speaking after the game, the manager chose to talk about the positives instead.

Emery pointed out two players who stood out for Arsenal despite them losing the game.

“I cannot say a lot about that. They showed their superiority at the end of the match,” the manager said.

“I’m very happy with Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira’s performances today, but they also need time to improve and to take confidence, to take experience for their future here.

“With the result, it’s not easy to say that, but there are some positives that we can look at from our players today.”

Both Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira arrived at the club during the summer but they have quickly become the mainstay in the Arsenal midfield.

Torreira has been one of the first names on the team sheet since day one and now Matteo Guendouzi is also finding his foot.

And it wasn’t only the manager who praised the young Frenchman as football pundit Ian Wright also took to social media to praise Matteo Guendouzi labelling him as one of the bright sparks during Arsenal’s 3-1 loss.

Talking about Guendouzi, Ian Wright wrote: “Disappointing result today,

“Shining light in Matteo’s performance – always wanted the ball, fought for everything and showed great composure”.

Guendouzi took notice of the comments and pledged to work harder.

With both Torreira and Guendouzi picking up pace, Emery might have finally solved the midfield dilemma for Arsenal. Now the manager just needs a strong defensive lineup.
