Rangers FC heroically knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the Europa League last week but they quite shockingly dropped two points in the league against Motherwell.

Motherwell held Rangers FC to a 2-2 draw so the Gers have failed to claw the gap between them and league leaders Celtic. After this draw, there have been some whispers that the Rangers players might be crumbling under pressure.

Their manager though was quick to come out and defend his players stating that this game comes at the back of a stellar performance against BVB so diminishing mentalities is not an issue at all.

Van Bronckhorst said, as quoted: “The mentality is good. I didn’t hear any complaints on Thursday about the mentality and it is the same players. It is only a couple of days later.

“I think the mentality is good. Sometimes these situations happen.

“We have to be more ruthless defensively, that is for sure, and we have to be more clinical in front of goal.

“If you have 30 chances, not all shots on goal, we had a lot of chances to score more goals. If you look back at the run after the break, getting four draws isn’t good enough and it has to be better, especially with the standards we want to have with this club.

“Of course we can do things better but I think the mentality of the players is what is needed to be successful. But obviously we cannot continue to dominate games and just get one point.”

Celtic had the opportunity to widen the gap at the top of the table but they too have dropped points during the weekend so the gap still remains at three points.

Yes, Rangers did not have the best of games against Motherwell but it’s only a matter of winning one game and they will once again be at par with their arch-rivals.

The Gers do have the Europa League to focus on whereas Celtic FC only have the SPFL to think about but the fact that they are in Europe will only give Van Bronckhorst’s side an added boost and encouragement.

Rangers FC take on Celtic at the start of next month and a lot could be riding on the outcome of this derby. The title race is not over by any means but the Ibrox outfit will need to stop leaking points or else that three-point gap is just going to keep on increasing.
