England have managed to prove everyone wrong by winning a penalty shoot-out and thus beating Colombia to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

England took the lead through Harry Kane which was cancelled out by Yerry Mina’s strike in injury time after which both the teams failed to find the net during extra-time.

And in the penalty shoot-out, it was, in fact, Colombia who had drawn first blood as Jordan Henderson’s shot was saved by Ospina.

But the South American’s joy was short lived as Mateus Uribe hit the very next penalty into the crossbar after which both the teams were back to square one.

Then it was England’s turn to call the shots are Jordan Pickford made a fine save from Carlos Bacca and the Three Lions ultimately held their nerves to come out trumps.

After the win, all the fans have been gushing about England and how they were calm and composed during the shoot-out despite having history as their arch nemesis.

But it looks like the fans need to thank Cristiano Ronaldo for England’s successful penalty shoot-out.

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to a piece by the Telegraph(as reported by GiveMeSport), the Football Association had asked it, players, to copy the style of Cristiano Ronaldo while taking penalties.

“We’ve got a research team on it to come back with some interesting findings,” FA technical director Dan Ashworth said.

“How are we going to get over that? Because if you’re going to win a World Cup, statistics will tell you that you’ll have to get through one round on penalties. And they had some quite inventive ways of how they dealt with that.”

The FA had asked all its players to take their time before striking the ball during the penalty shoot-outs – something that Cristiano Ronaldo is great at doing. And it seems that FA’s research and advice has helped England move to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
