Rangers hosted Kilmarnock in the 5th Round of the Scottish FA Cup replays on Wednesday.
And Steven Gerrard’s men came out of the match with flying colours.
Alfredo Morelos was undoubtedly the start of the match having scored four goals while the other one was added by Andy Halliday.
Kilmarnock were taken out of the game pretty early when Daniel Bachmann picked up a red card in the 25th minute.
This was without a doubt one of the finest performances from the Gers this season but there were also a large number of bewildered fans
And this was because the Rangers vs Kilmarnock game was not broadcasted live on television.
For the fans who were wondering as to why the Scottish Cup match was devoid of broadcasting rights – well the UEFA Europa League was to blame for that.
The game was not broadcasted due to UEFA’s broadcasting laws which prevent certain domestic games from being shown live on television on the same night of European competitions.
On Wednesday, Sevilla hosted Lazio in the Round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League as a result of which the Rangers game vs Killie was shown on television.
Generally, these restrictions are imposed on those leagues and teams which have direct involvement in the Europa League or the Champions League.
But sadly though, Rangers could not even make it past the group stages of the Europa League.
So what this television ban then?
Well, UEFA thinks that Rangers vs Killie is a pretty big domestic competition which could have killed some of their viewerships for the Europa League.
Not to demean either Sevilla or Lazio but neither of those two Europa League teams have a significant fan base which collides with either Rangers or Kilmarnock.
So by stopping the broadcast of the Scottish Cup game, UEFA had devoid hundreds of thousands of Scottish fans from watching the game at home.
