Chelsea staged a superb comeback vs Ajax in midweek and this point might very well make the difference in them qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
At one point, Frank Lampard men were trailing 4-1 in the match but they showed tremendous grit and determination to fight back and as soon as the away side went down to nine men, the Blues managed to score level the match.
During the first half, Ajax were by far the better side at Stamford Bridge but as soon as both the sides came out in the second half, Chelsea looked like a completely different unit.
And finally, Frank Lampard has revealed what he told his players inside the dressing room at half time.
‘The two own goals were the story of our first half. We were in the first half,’ Lampard told BT Sport after the game[as reported by The Metro].
‘I said to the lads at half-time – I’m not trying to say how clever I am – but I said, “I think we’re going to draw this at least 3-3, could be 4-4, could be 4-3 and we could win it. It’s up to us.”
‘Because if we got rid of those crazy moments that gave them the goals – some misfortune, some on us – I just felt we were so in the game.
‘We were just short of that last pass in the final third, Christian Pulisic looked so dangerous, Willian looked dangerous and I just thought we’d build momentum and fortunately we did.
‘I need to compose myself. I was just watching back the first-half goals there so I could give you some form of explanation, but I can’t explain the game.
‘But I suppose for all the things we might analyse back and the goals that we conceded and the madness of the game, we are here for entertainment I suppose, even though there were some nervy moments and crazy moments.
‘So I think anyone that was watching that at home, or here, or anywhere, has to say what an incredible game of football. Respect to Ajax, they’re a great team, what a spectacle.’
Frank Lampard has really worked hard with this Chelsea side and his job is even more commendable since he has been forced to use a lot of youngsters due to the transfer ban imposed on the club.
Right now the Blues are fourth on the Premier League table – level on points with Leicester City and if they can manage to keep up the same pace for the rest of the season then surely Frank Lampard will be managing his side in the Champions League next year as well.
