Manchester United held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

And despite picking up just one point but for the fans this draw was nothing less than a win.

United had to make all of there three substitutions in the first half itself and this meant, the initial game plan from Ole Solskjaer had to be flushed down pretty early.

Juan Mata and Ander Herrera picked up hamstring injuries and even Jesse Lingard who came on as a substitute injured himself and had to be replaced by Alexis Sanchez.

Solskjaer was already without Nemanja Matic and the injury to Ander Herrera meant that Andreas Periera had to play in midfield.

This meant that Liverpool had the golden opportunity to inflict’s Man United’s first league defeat since Solskajer took charge but that was not to be.

The home team fought grittily and in the end, the fans looked very much pleased with the outcome.

And after the match, the voices asking for Solskjaer to become the permanent boss became even louder.

Former Man United full-back Gary Neville gave his opinion about Solskjaer’s future at the end of the season and this is what he had to say.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I don’t think you can give it to someone else, otherwise there would be mutiny. The fans were singing for him. I think it’s very close now – I can’t see the club going away from it.

“We learnt a lot about the mood of the club in that second half.

“Three months ago they were singing ‘attack, attack, attack’ and today they were singing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s name for all of the second half.

“The mood has completely transformed – the atmosphere was one of the best I’ve seen at Old Trafford for years and it was 0-0! If Manchester United had scored it would have been incredible.”

Man United travel to Selhurst Park on Wednesday to take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
