Barcelona thumped 3-0 past Liverpool during the first-leg of the Champions League semi-finals last weekend at Camp Nou.

And after the match, it was more or less certain that the Catalans would be moving into the finals given that one away goal would have been more than enough to knock out Liverpool.

But some Liverpool faithful still had a ray of hope, given Barcelona lost a similar lead against AS Roma last year.

And this was exactly what happened at Anfield on Tuesday.

A rampant Liverpool side thumped four goals past Valverde’s side during the second leg and the Catalans failed to come up with a response.

Wijnaldum and Origi scored two goals each during the second leg and Liverpool were by far the better side throughout the match.

Not every team can boast of outclassing Barcelona in almost every aspect on the pitch – from attack to defence.

Lionel Messi refused to talk to the press after the loss but Sergio Busquets revealed why Barcelona suffered such an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

“They have been better than us,” the Barcelona midfielder said(as reported).

“I apologize. After what happened in Rome, this happened again.

“It’s tough to go out like this after the first-leg result.

” Liverpool have been smarter than us, they were faster.

“I think we had chances to score the goal we needed, but it was not meant to be today.”

Liverpool played well during the first leg as well but their dominance, unfortunately, did not see any goal return.

But this time around, Jurgen Klopp’s men made sure that they were more clinical infront of goal and the constant pressing game meant Barcelona failed to get their fluid game going.

The La Liga champions did manage to shift gears during the final few minutes of the match but by that time it was all too late and Liverpool ended up beating Barcelona with an aggregate scoreline of 4-3.
