Liverpool not only managed to keep Lionel Messi in check at Anfield this week but they also made one of the most impressive comebacks in modern football.

The Reds went into the second leg with a 3-0 deficit and everyone was certain that Jurgen Klopp needed a small miracle to enter the finals of the Champions League.

While Liverpool performed exceptionally well during the first leg at Camp Nou but in the end, it was Lionel Messi who proved to be the difference between both the sides.

And the Barca fans were hoping to see some further Messi magic at Anfield on Tuesday.

Eventually, though this was not the case as the Argentine was cut to a lonely figure all throughout the match.

Divock Origi and Winjaldum scored a brace each to help Liverpool win the two-legged tie 4-3 and send Barcelona crashing out of the Champions League.

And this is the second year in a row when Lionel Messi and co have failed to capitalise on a substantial first-leg advantage.

After the match, the broadcasters were waiting to get an interview from Lionel Messi but the forward refused to talk to the reporters.

And to top the frustration off, Spanish TV channel El Chiringuito(via the Mirror) have claimed that Barcelona left for the airport without Lionel Messi.

As per the report, Lionel Messi was still waiting at Anfield to ‘to provide testers with a sample’ but his side did not feel the need to stop behind.

This has surely not gone down too well with the Barcelona fans who have blamed the management for showing lack of respect towards their talisman.

But having said this, there is obviously another justification towards this whole incident.

Some rumours have claimed that Barcelona were well aware of the fact that Lionel Messi would be held back due to the tests and in fact they had left a representative to accompany the Argentine.

These rumours though, cannot be confirmed.
