Spurs beat Man City in the Premier League last weekend but then they shockingly went down to Burnley in midweek. And immediately after this defeat, Antonio Conte has come out to make some really candid remarks.

Tottenham did not have the best of transfer windows last month and last week, Conte had subtly hinted that he was not satisfied with Daniel Levy’s transfer policy.

And after the loss to Burnley, the Spurs manager has not only doubted the board’s transfer policy but he’s also put a question mark over his future at the club.

“In the last five games, we are playing like we are in [the] relegation [zone]; this is the reality,” he said, as quoted.

“I came in to improve the situation but at this moment, I’m not so good to improve this situation. We are working hard; we are trying to get the best out of every single player.

“It means there will be an assessment about the club, about me. The club changes coaches, the players remain the same, but the result doesn’t change.

“For me, it’s very frustrating to lose four games in the last five games. We are doing everything to change situation, but it’s not enough.

“Maybe, I’m not so good. Tottenham called me to change things, but I’m too honest. This is unacceptable.

“For sure, we’ll make an assessment with the club. It’s not right; it’s not good for everybody to continue to lose. I can’t accept this; it’s not good for no-one.”

Spurs will not be able to grab a UCL spot and the reason is very simple:

The Tottenham fans were buoyant when Antonio Conte took charge of their side and the players also responded well to the new manager’s tactics. They are still one of the favourites to finish in the top-four but chances are with this average side, Spurs are going to implode at any stage.

Clearly, the minimal transfer activity in January has been a major issue for the Italian and he’s now understood that Daniel Levy is not ready to spend money in the market.

This is not the first time Levy has taken this approach and while many pundits have labelled him as a master negotiator but the reality is that Levy is just not ready to spend the big bucks.

It looks like he is more than happy with a Champions League spot but Antonio Conte is someone who is not ready to accept such meagre ambitions.

Nuno Espirito Santo did not have the gravitas to speak against Daniel Levy but Conte came to Spurs after winning the Serie A with Inter and he’s one of the most elite managers in Europe. The Italian’s statement has come as a surprise to many and it’s now pretty clear that he is seriously considering leaving in the summer.

Conte wants to challenge for silverware but unfortunately, Daniel Levy does not harbour the same emotions. In the era of high-spenders like Man City, Newcastle United and Man United, the Spurs chairman is still banking on bargain signings to come out great.

There was a season when Pochettino did not get even a single new player after a long summer transfer window and the Argentine boldly stood by that decision. But the current Spurs manager is not made of the same fabric so it’s either his way or the highway.
