Arsenal went past Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Monday but the manager, unfortunately, lost Lucas Torreira to an early first-half injury.

Following a strong challenge from Portsmouth’s James Bolton, Lucas Torreira was substituted with an ankle injury in the 16th minute. But initially, it was being suggested that the player had only sustained a sprain.

But after the match though, Mikel Arteta admitted that the midfielder was in a lot of pain and had left the stadium in a brace.

The manager said as reported by the club’s official website: “He was in a lot of pain.”

“He is in a brace at the moment, he will be assessed in the next few days and we will know more then. I don’t know if it’s the bone or ligaments, we don’t know yet.”

And after this statement, there was a genuine fear that Lucas Torreira might have sustained serious damage which would keep him out of action for a lengthy period of time.

Now though, the player has himself come out to douse most of the fears claiming that the injury is not as bad as it looks and right now he is ok.

‘I wanted to tap it and grabbed my ankle on the outside,’ Torreira told ESPN(via Metro).

‘It twisted me, but I can move it. I’m fine’.

Next up, Arsenal take on West Ham United in the Premier League and surely Lucas Torreira will not be fit in time to take on the Hammers.
