Arsenal finally ended their nine-game winless streak by beating West Ham United 3-1 in the Premier League on Monday. And the team’s first win under Freddie Ljungberg.

The interim boss took charge of Arsenal after Unai Emery was sacked by the club and the Swede will remain in charge until the Gunners manage to bring in a new manager.

But while the management is busy looking for a new boss, there have been whispers that the club is open to considering Freddie Ljungberg as their next manager if the team can perform well under his guidance.

And when the interim boss was asked this very same question, he made it clear that right now he is working on a game-to-game basis which is why he does not have a full team backing him up.

“We are not near to where I want us to be. There are a lot of things to fix,” said the interim manager.

“I speak to [technical director] Edu. I don’t have much of a staff. I have been told to work on a game-by-game basis.

“To win is a great feeling and it’s a lot better to win than lose. This is a club I love. We have a lot to work on. The players have been under a lot of pressure but had the mental strength to win.”

Freddie Ljungberg also made it clear that this win against the Hammers might have put some much-needed wind into their sales but the Arsenal players at the moment are putting their head down and focusing on the challenges that lie ahead.

“First half we were slow, a bit lethargic and didn’t move or run, but that comes when players are low and have no confidence because you don’t do the things you need to,” Ljungberg said.

“It has been hard, but I felt ‘give it a go second half’ and it was amazing for me to see.

“You saw West Ham get a bit tired and low around the 60th and we sliced them open and played some really good football. That is how we want to play, keeping the ball well, but of course, we won’t get carried away.

“We have a lot of work to do on things, but all credit to the players for how they did in the second half.”
