Bernd Leno has been a hit and miss this season for Arsenal but according to David Seaman German is potentially one of the candidates for the Player of the Season.

Leno so far has played in 27 Premier League games for the Gunners but has managed to keep only six clean sheets but has let in 36 goals.

Apart from these poor stats, the player has also made some high profile mistakes this season which in turn have cost Arsenal a couple of points in crucial games.

But still, Seaman believes Bernd Leno is up along with the best and being criticised comes as a package of being a goalkeeper.

“He’s been criticised, but you do,” said the Gunners great via Goal.com.

“Being a goalkeeper, you make mistakes and you do get criticised.

“I saw a stat saying he’d made the most mistakes or whatever, but he made a lot of saves in those games as well.

“A lot of people have been talking about him as Player of the Season at Arsenal because he’s had a lot to do, which is surprising for an Arsenal team because we’re normally really good at defending. But that just shows where we are at the moment.”

Is Bernd Leno really poor?

Bernd Leno has so far been conceding at a rate of 1.3 goals per game which is really massive given the fact that Arsenal are trying to get back amongst the big boys.

Bernd Leno Stats

But honestly speaking a lot of the blame for this poor defensive record should also be shouldered by the Arsenal defenders who have been really poor this season.

The likes of David Luiz, Sokratis and Mustafi have all been failures so far and Bernd Leno can only do so much with such a poor screen infront of him.

While there have been whispers that Mikel Arteta might be looking to bring in a new keeper during the summer but we are pretty confident that Arsenal will hold onto Bernd Leno primarily because if the North London club cannot get back into the Champions League then each and every penny spent in the transfer market will be of utmost importance.
