Arsenal centre-back David Luiz has been linked with a move out of the Emirates this summer and as per the latest rumours, Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg want to bring him on board for the 2020-21 season.

HITC are reporting: “A Bola have revealed that Russian giants Zenit Saint Petersburg want to sign David Luiz this summer in order to replace one of his former teammates.

“Former Chelsea star Branislav Ivanovic is expected to leave Zenit this summer, and the Russians view Luiz as an ideal replacement for the Serbian defender.

“There have been rumours that have revealed that Luiz wants to stay in London with Arsenal. However, his six-figure wages might just be what is holding the deal up at the moment.”

The defender is expected to be out of contract at the club this summer but recently his agent Kia Joorabchian had revealed that the Gunners could hold onto him beyond the summer.

“He’s very happy at Arsenal,” Joorabchian had told Sky Sports. “He has an extremely good relationship with both the coach and the sporting director. He has good relationships all throughout the club, right up to the owner. He respects everybody.

“Arsenal had an option, which expired. We also had a pandemic [coronavirus]. So the option expired in the middle of the pandemic. We are all very aware of that situation and we are all trying, very slowly, to get back to this ‘new normal’.

“These contract situations, these renewals, if he stays or if he goes… will all sort themselves out when we get back to some kind of ‘new normal’.

“David will sit down with Arsenal before the season begins, have his conversations and they will both decide if he will stay or not. That will come before the season starts. The chances are very high [of Luiz being at Arsenal next season]. There is no desire to leave.”

Zenit Saint Petersburg is the second club being linked with the Gunners in the past few weeks and if Mikel Arteta can manage to bring in a new defender then surely, the club will let the Brazilian defender leave in the summer.

But, at the same time, some experts believe the club should hold onto David Luiz for one more season, especially since they are about to enter a really tough couple of months and the manager will be needing all the experience that he can get.
