Manchester United might be serious about making a move for Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa – as per Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Man United along with the likes of Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan have shown considerable interest in the 22-year-old as it looks like Solskjaer wants the winger as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho.

Express are writing: “Manchester United boast an advantage in their pursuit of Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa. The Red Devils are ready for a busy summer transfer window. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bolster his squad, with a winger a priority.

“The Red Devils have been tipped to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, however, Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim United have a cheaper alternative.”

The player has come up through the ranks at Fiorentina and still has two years left on his current deal which is why the Italian side are demanding around £60m in exchange of the winger.

Can Federico Chiesa be an alternative for Sancho?

Unlike Jadon Sancho’s move, Man United are sure to get their hands on Federico Chiesa since the club’s president has made it clear the player will be allowed to leave for the right price.

Rocco Commisso said, as quoted: “Chiesa? As we Americans say, the grass is always greener on the other side. Federico knows what Fiorentina is, who I am and our fans and where we want to go. Going elsewhere would be a risk for him.

“Chiesa must decide, and as I said, if he wants to leave, I’ll settle as long as the figure is right. How much is Lautaro’s release clause? €111 million? Well, I could take a million off Chiesa. No, I’m kidding. As long as the amount is right.”

“I’m thinking for the good of Fiorentina. If Chiesa wants to go, our priority will be to get the right financial compensation.

“There are no vetoes for some teams. But right now, I have a splendid relationship with Federico and his father. There is a positive climate that should not be altered.”

Now, Federico Chiesa is nowhere as good as Jadon Sancho since this season he’s managed to score six and assist five goals in 23 Serie A games which is not even close to the numbers that Sancho has accumulated at Dortmund. But, at the same time, Chiesa is available at a much cheaper rate that the English star which could just tempt Man United.

We think Federico Chiesa is not going to be Ole’s first-choice and the Norwegian manager will only move for the Fiorentina man once he’s sure he cannot sign Jadon Sancho.
