Liverpool have been knocked out of the Champions League in the Round of 16 and it seems like Jurgen Klopp has not taken the defeat very mildly.

The German boss had sent out a stern warning to Atletico Madrid before the second leg at Anfield but on Wednesday night, Atletico Madrid did a perfect job of silencing the whole stadium as Simeone’s men won the match 3-2.

Atletico Madrid stepped onto the pitch with a defensive mindset and for almost all of the game, they were pinned inside their own half.

Still though, Marcos Llorente and Alvaro Morata ensured that the La Liga outfit came out on top and speaking after the match, Jurgen Klopp has chosen to point fingers at Atletico’s style of play.

“I don’t understand with the quality they have that they play this kind of football, I don’t understand to be honest,” said the German.

“When I see players like Koke, Saul, Llorente, they could play proper football, but they sat deep in their own half and have counter-attacks.”

While some experts and fans have chosen to back the statements of Jurgen Klopp but Ray Parlour has come out to slam the Liverpool manager for his failure to accept a defeat.

“I’m surprised he’s had a go at the way they play,” he said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, via talkSPORT. “How does he think they’re going to play?

“They’re not going to come out and play open football at Anfield when they’ve got a 1-0 lead, you’ve got to sit off a little bit. What do you expect them to do?

“Some people will set up their teams differently in different situations; maybe at home they were a little more expansive, but away from home Diego Simeone has always set his teams up like that, hard to beat, get everyone behind the ball.

“And they got through! I know they’ve got good quality as well, but they got the job done!

“Liverpool had so many chances, too. Liverpool should really have gone through with the chances they had. But Atletico got the job done.”

Is Jurgen Klopp at fault?

Jurgen Klopp knew very well what Atletico Madrid would try to do in the second leg and the first thing the manager should do is to look at his players and his own tactics.

The Atletico players did a fine job of handling all the pressure and managed to keep Liverpool at bay for most of the game – despite the attacking waves coming at them after every alternate minute.

And this is not the first time that Jurgen Klopp has chosen to divert the attention from his own players since in the past the German has chosen to blame things like the wind and the pitch for his team’s losses.
