Recently, reports had suggested that Celtic FC are willing to part ways with their centre-back Kristoffer Ajer as Premier League side Leicester City look to bring him on board.
The defender has been on Brendan Rodgers’ transfer wishlist over the past few months and as per Football Insider, the Bhoys will let the Norwegian leave in case the Foxes are willing to pay £20million.
The report claimed: “Celtic are ready to sell Kristoffer Ajer this summer if their £20million asking price is met, Football Insider understands. The giant Norwegian defender is attracting strong interest from Leicester City, while AC Milan are also keen on him.
“A source with knowledge of Ajer‘s situation has told Football Insider that the Celtic board have made up their minds to let him go at the right price.”
Will Leicester City pull the plug on the Kristoffer Ajer deal?
According to former Rangers man Alan Hutton, the price currently being quoted by the Hoops is a bit too steep which is why the Foxes might think hard before launching an official bid.
Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s probably a little bit high, especially in today’s market, to be honest, but look, he’s been a rock, he’s been excellent for them.
“He’s one of their main defenders, especially when they play in that three, he’s an ever-present so I can see why they rate him so highly. I just don’t think they’ll want to let him go one the cheap.
“I hear Brendan Rodgers is looking at him at Leicester so it could be a decent-sized move for him money-wise, for Celtic as well, so they’ll be willing to listen to offers but the thing is they don’t want to sell him on the cheap. That’s why they’re putting the price so high.”
Rodgers is clearly interested in landing Kristoffer Ajer this summer so there’s no way the Premier League side will back out from this deal.
While they will obviously want Celtic to lower their demands but even if the Scottish club are not willing to budge, we are pretty sure Leicester will still go out and sign Kristoffer Ajer before the 2020-21 season kicks off.
This season, the 22-year-old centre-back has featured in 28 Premiership matches for Celtic, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
