Timo Werner Liverpool
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig, 11) kann sein Versagen nicht fassen, nachdem er völlig frei stehend über das Tor schoss; Enttäuschung, enttäuscht, Frustration, disappointed

Timo Werner has reportedly snubbed a move to Liverpool and has agreed on a principle deal to join Premier League rivals, Chelsea – as per reports.

The Leipzig forward was tipped to move to Anfield at the end of the 2019-20 season while Chelsea were far behind in the transfer race. But since Thursday, multiple reports in England have been claiming that it is the Blues who have agreed on a deal to sign the 24-year-old.

Matt Law wrote for The Telegraph: “Timo Werner has agreed to join Chelsea, who are on the verge of tying up a deal to sign the forward from Red Bull Leipzig.

“As exclusively revealed by Telegraph Sport on Tuesday, Chelsea have moved to sign Werner after Liverpool did not meet his release clause which is reported to be worth around £53 million.

“Werner has now agreed to join Chelsea on a contract worth almost £200,000-a-week and the club are now expected to agree a deal with Leipzig.”

This came as a huge shock for all the Liverpool fans since Timo Werner had in the past made it clear that he wishes to play for the Anfield outfit next season.

But now as per a report, the German international chose to head to Stamford Bridge primarily due to the indecisiveness of the Liverpool management.

The report claims: “Liverpool’s unwillingness to meet the release clause for Timo Werner prompted the RB Leipzig striker to have a change of heart and accept an offer from Chelsea.

“A report in The Athletic has suggested Werner had held talks with Klopp and was planning to go house-hunting in Merseyside at the end of the Bundesliga campaign, such was his expectation of a move to Anfield.

“That, though, changed once Chelsea’s intent became clear.

“Chelsea have a sizeable transfer kitty having sold Eden Hazard for £88.5m last year with another £50m incoming from the agreed sale of Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid.”

Werner’s release clause at RB Leipzig expires on the 15th of this month so unless Liverpool take prompt action, it’s Chelsea who are likely to get their hands on the centre-forward.

So as things stand, Liverpool are likely to lose out on Timo Werner which is a massive blow for Jurgen Klopp but great news for Chelsea.

Frank Lampard’s dream of signing a top-class partner for Tammy Abraham will finally be successful whereas Klopp might have to keep using Roberto Firmino next season as well.
