Olivier Giroud wanted by Antonio Conte Chelsea
Olivier Giroud playing for France

Olivier Giroud had seen almost no game time during the first half of the season for Chelsea but right now, the Frenchman is perhaps one of the most important persons in Lampard’s squad.

From the start of the season, it was evident that Tammy Abraham would be the first-choice striker and the manager had even gone on to say that Olivier Giroud would be allowed to leave in January.

Eventually, though, this move did not happen because the Blues failed to bring in a new striker. And right after that, Abraham picked up an injury which has kept him out of action till now.

So all of a sudden, Giroud is the main striker for Chelsea and to repay the favour, the World Cup winner has put in some really good performances. And maybe this is why, there have been rumours that Lampard might opt to keep him at the club beyond the summer.

Now Giroud too has hinted that he is open to signing a new deal at the club during the summer transfer window.

Giroud told Goal, when asked whether he could stay for the upcoming season: “Yes. Of course[I can stay].

“There are a few months to go, games to win and maybe another trophy, and after, you know, I think I have two (or) three nice seasons in front of me.

“It’s not the time to talk about contracts and everything but I will take a decision when it comes.

“It was a tough month for me[the first half of the season].

“I just spoke with the manager and I believed what he said, that I would get my chance and he has given me my chance. I have basically tried to give his confidence back on the pitch.

“I do my job the best that I can and I’m very happy to be back in the team.

“Of course, my confidence is better. The transfer window is behind me. I’m a Chelsea player, I’m happy here again and that’s the most important thing. Even if I don’t score, I try to help the team.”

Will Chelsea let Olivier Giroud leave?

Yes, the Frenchman has been a key player for Chelsea during the past couple of weeks but as soon as Tammy Abraham comes back into the side, the senior pro will once again fall down the pecking order.

And if this isn’t enough, Chelsea are sure to bring in reinforcements during the summer especially in the more advanced roles and for that, the club will have to get rid of all the deadwood.

So right now, Olivier Giroud might be enjoying his starting role at the club but we are more or less certain that he will be allowed to leave as a free agent during the summer.
