Rangers FC have signed Liverpool right-back John Flanagan on a free transfer and the 25-year-old’s arrival at Ibrox has already set the gossip columns rolling.
It was just yesterday that reports had emerged of Swansea City’s interest in Rangers right-back James Tavernier and we discussed how the Gers could let him leave.
Tavernier is undoubtedly one of the best right-backs in the Scottish League and Rangers have come to the conclusion that it is time for them to cash in on the player and they are willing to offload the player for a fee of around 3 million pounds.
And now with the arrival of John Flanagan, the rumours of James Tavernier moving out of Ibrox are picking up wind.
Some reports claim that Rangers’ acquisition of Flanagan is proof that the club are in the process of offloading James Tavernier – if not to Swansea then maybe to someone else.
While others claim that the former Liverpool right-back will only act as a back to Tavernier and there is no way that Steven Gerrard will part ways with one of his best players.
Flanagan is might have lived in the shadows at Anfield but he is one of the finest talents to come out of the Liverpool academy for quite some time now.
And Steven Gerrard will know the right-back pretty well having previously played with him in the Premier League.
We feel that James Tavernier moving out of Ibrox is a long shot as of now but with the arrival of Flanagan, Steven Gerrard has surely sent a message that the right-back role is up for grabs.
