Should Celtic try and sign this £5m striker instead of Ivan Toney?

Celtic FC

Celtic FC made an initial £6million bid last week in order to sign centre-forward Ivan Toney from Peterborough United but the League One side have reportedly turned it down.

And just when the Bhoys were trying to chalk out the future course for this transfer, Posh director of football Barry Fry has come out to claim that Celtic FC should hurry up or they might lose Toney to another club.

He told Daily Mail, as reported: “Celtic are running out of time now. The lad is very close to signing for someone else in the next couple of days. Celtic would have been his preferred choice but they are nowhere near it.

“I heard from Ivan’s agent to say Celtic were coming back. That was Sunday evening after their first game but I haven’t heard anything.”

Many people think Celtic might have been pushed against the wall and they might just end up overpaying for the 24-year-old. But Neil Lennon is clearly keeping his options open.

According to reports, the Glasgow side are keen to land West Ham United forward Albian Ajeti on a loan deal – with a £5 million option to buy. This despite his agent Arber Sakiri suggesting otherwise.

He told the Daily Express, via Sun Sport: “For the moment, there is nothing to say.

“He is still a player of West Ham. It is normal that we have some calls here and some calls there and people are talking about this.

“It is also normal that people are talking about something and some interest here or there, maybe that’s true. From our side, there is nothing to say.”

Albian Ajeti will definitely be a much cheaper buy than Ivan Toney but it will be interesting to see if West Ham United let him leave after having signed him just last summer.

Also, the Hammers have survived relegation meaning they will need a big squad next season in order to move up to the top half of the Premier League table.
