Rangers FC made a number of signing during the summer transfer window which meant Steven Gerrard had to offload a string of first-team players.

And one such player who was tipped to leave the club was right-back James Tavernier.

Tavernier has become an integral part of Gerrard’s plans during the season but the player was expected to leave the club during the summer transfer window.

A number of clubs were interested in signing him before the season and the name that shone the brightest was that of West Bromwich Albion.

Rangers had planned to send James Tavernier off to West Brom and bring in midfielder Rekeem Harper as part of a swap deal.

But now reports are suggesting that the Baggies could once again come back for James Tavernier during the January transfer window.

West Brom brought in Tyrone Mears as their right-back but the Championship club are still looking at James Tavernier as their long-term solution to their right-back problem.

But the scenario for Rangers have changed since the summer as Steven Gerrard has signed a number of midfielders since their interest in Rekeem Harper.

And the other important part is that James Tavernier is now an integral part of Gerrard’s first team.

James Tavernier has played 26 games for the Teddy Bears so far this season – scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists.
