Rangers FC emphatically beat St Mirren this past weekend in the Premiership with the Gers scoring four goals.
But now the whole debate after the match in on the penalties that were awarded to Rangers.
Steven Gerrard’s men won four penalties against St Mirren out of which three were converted.
And in one of those penalties replays showed that summer signing Jermain Defoe went down too easily.
Now speaking about that penalty, Steve Clarke has said that Jermain Defoe should be banned retrospectively if he is found guilty of simulation.
He told The Record: “There was a media furore [when Jones divded].
“A witch hunt against the player. Nothing on the same scale from Saturday’s game, Rangers versus St Mirren.
“Hopefully the compliance officer [Clare Whyte] will do her job.
“It doesn’t affect us, I am not particularly advocating [a sanction], but I just want consistency.
“So if our player gets a two-game ban, I look forward to seeing what happens this week.”
There is no official report whether Jermain Defoe will face any punishment or not but if he were to be banned then the summer signing could miss the midweek fixture vs Aberdeen and then the weekend’s Scottish Cup clash vs Kilmarnock.
