Arsenal were humiliated by Manchester City in the Premier League this past weekend and Unai Emery’s men are now losing ground in the top-four race.

The loss means that the Gunners are now sixth on the league table and the loss against the defending champions proved just how incompetent the Arsenal players really are.

But not all was bad for the London club since one player has heavily impressed the manager as well as the pundits despite the loss.

The player is summer signing Matteo Guendouzi who was praised for his efforts and hard work in midfield during the high-profile clash.

Emery claimed that the performances of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi were really inspirational and the other players should take a lesson from that.

And speaking after the game even the likes of Gary Neville and Ian Wright went onto praise the youngster.

“He’s done well,” said Gary Neville.

“He’s coming into a team that is changing,

“This is a tough place to play football but he’s standing up, that’s the main thing.

“He’s trying to match the runs of Manchester City’s midfield which is tough.”

Ian Wright who posted an appreciation message on social media regarding the midfielder said on television: “Matteo Guendouzi, you have to say, to go to City and put in the shift that he put in today, never gave up, fighting all the way to the end, and that is the spirit, that is the kind of player that we want there [at Arsenal].”

Unai Emery has made some exceptional signings during the past year and Matteo Guendouzi clearly stands out amongst them.

But some reports have claimed that it was, in fact, the former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who had scouted the youngster while he playing for France so the credit of the signing should actually go to the veteran boss.

Keeping all this debate aside, both Torreira and Guendouzi look to be the future central midfielder partnership for Arsenal and the only thing that the pair need right now is – experience.
