Rangers brought in Jermain Defoe from AFC Bournemouth on an 18-month loan deal during the January transfer window.

And the former England international has settled in quite nicely at Ibrox.

So far, Jermain Defoe has played in five Premiership games for the Gers and the 36-year-old has already netted three goals and provided two assists.

The striker was on the scoresheet once again this week when he scored a late goal against Dundee.

Jermain Defoe came off the bench which has raised a few critical voices but Steven Gerrard seems to be all praise for his former England teammate.

Gerrard told RangersTV(as reported): ‘That is what we’ve brought him here for, to score goals.

‘It doesn’t matter whether Jermain plays 90 minutes or 60 or 30, we want him to be a goal threat, and his movement is fantastic.

‘I used to love playing with him. He’s a dream for a midfielder because his movement tells you where to play the ball.

‘It was a great pass from Ryan and a great finish, and he’ll continue to do that if we provide the service for him.’

Jermain Defoe was brought in to partner Alfredo Morelos upfront especially since Kyle Lafferty has been out of form for a couple of months now.

But given that Morelos is slated to leave Ibrox at the end of the season, we could very well see Jermain Defoe as Gerrard’s main striker for the 2019-20 season.

Having said that though Jermain Defoe is by no means a long term solution since the player is 36 years old and there is no way that he has a lot of football left in him.
