Rangers FC have signed Jermain Defoe from AFC Bournemouth meaning Gerrard will finally have a third striker amongst his ranks.
And with the arrival of Defoe, many are claiming that the Rangers boss might have pulled off a masterstroke.
Jermain Defoe has rarely featured for Eddie Howe’s side this season and the 36-year-old still has what it takes to make it click at the top level.
Many fans are hoping that instead of using him sparingly, the Rangers boss changes his formation in order to accommodate both Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe up front.
But according to offer Rangers man Kris Boyd, it will actually be Steven Davis and not Jermain Defoe who will become the star man for Rangers.
“If all the reports are correct, and I think they are, they will announce another couple in the next few days,” Boyd said.
“One of them is Steven Davis. He could be one of the best signings of the transfer window up here.
“He’s a fantastic player. We saw it the first time he was at Rangers.
“We talk about Jermain Defoe playing at that level, Steven Davis has been at that level the majority of his career,
“He’s got a big connection with Rangers, with the Rangers fans, and he knows what it takes.
“Yes Defoe might be getting to the end of the career but I think Steven Davis has a number of years left in him yet.
“When I was there the first he was fantastic on the ball, very under-rated because of the work he puts in. Now, to be a top player, you need to work as hard as anything and I think Steven Davis brings that in abundance but also quality as well.”
While Jermain Defoe will be moving into Ibrox on an 18-month loan spell, Steven Davis though will only be signing on a six-month loan spell(despite popular belief that the midfielder was set to make a permanent move).
