Liverpool will take on West Ham United in the Premier League on Monday and before that the manager has provided an injury update.

And the biggest setback that the team have suffered is with the injury of defender Joe Gomez.

Joe Gomez started the season as one of the two main centre-backs under Jurgen Klopp but the youngster suffered a broken ankle early in December. And since then he has been recovering.

Gomez was set to return back to action towards the end of January but now the manager has claimed that the defender will take more time.

Yes, he will miss the game vs West Ham but the manager has also ruled him out for the first leg of their Champions League clash vs Bayern Munich.

And this is a very serious issue since Virgil Van Dijk too will be absent during that game.

The Dutch international will be serving a one-match ban after picking up three yellow cards in the group game meaning Jurgen Klopp’s team will face Bayern Munich without two of their best defenders.

The absence of Van Dijk and Joe Gomez means that Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren will play in central defence and with the firepower that the German side have, they can easily tear the Anfield outfit to shreds.

Apart from that, the manager would also need to keep both these defenders fit before the Champions League clash since Klopp does not have any other centre-back.

Before they welcome Bayern Munich in the first leg, the Reds will take on West Ham and Bournemouth and it is an absolute no brainer that the manager will be selecting Virgil Van Dijk for both these games.

Now it remains to be seen who will partner Van Dijk amongst Matip and Lovren since both of them will have the duty to ward off the Munich threat in three weeks time.
