Arsenal will take on Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend and all the fans will be hoping to see new signing Denis Suarez in action.

Unai Emery had been after Suarez ever since the start of the January transfer window and finally, during the last few days of the window, the deal actually went through.

The Barcelona man has arrived at the Emirates on a loan spell but the contract does have an option to buy at the end of the season. And Unai Emery will be hoping to exercise that option during the summer.

Unai Emery obviously knows Suarez from their Valencia days but now the Arsenal boss has revealed that the midfielder is not the only player he actually wanted to sign in January.

‘The club was working all we can,’ said Emery.

‘We were speaking about the possibility of maybe taking three players, but only if they can come here with our conditions, and also if we think they can help us with good performances, better than the players we have here.

‘Only Denis Suarez joined and we’re happy. The club worked very well.

‘I use a lot of information about the previous years in the Premier League table of other teams and also our team, and we are doing our way.

‘Now with the 47 points we have in the table, in the last four years, there’s only one other time Arsenal have had the same points at this moment.

‘This transfer window is not easy and it isn’t possible to change a lot of things to help us with a very big performance, and I am very happy with the players we have here.

‘We have some players who are recovering after injuries and I think they can help us with the final three months of the season.

‘We have a very big motivation in our competition in the Premier League and the Europa League, and I think for example that Sunday is a very big and tough match, but it’s a great match for us to show everybody how we are now against Manchester.

‘It’s very difficult but I trust in my players.’

When Rob Holding got injured everyone was sure that Unai Emery would try and bring in a central defender in January and then after Hector Bellerin was ruled out for the rest of the season, everyone urged the club to sign a right-back.

Yes, Denis Suarez is a fine signing for the club but it is also true that the Gunners have been leaking goals like crazy and Unai Emery will have to stop that – with the player he has at his disposal.
