Rangers FC made a lot of positive strides last season under new boss Steven Gerrard but still Celtic managed a domestic clean sweep.

Initially, there was a hint of competition between both the sides but as the season rolled along, the Bhoys shifted gears and just raced their way to the Premiership title.

Despite failing to win a single silverware last season, most pundits have praised the Rangers work for the good work that he has done and they believe that Gerrard’s men should pose a bigger threat this time around.

And Chelsea legend John Terry has also sung on the same tunes claiming that Rangers will be a force to reckon with next season primarily due to the signings that Gerrard is making this summer.

Terry said: “I was always confident Stevie would have an impact at Rangers. I’ve seen his standards first hand playing with England and against him when he was at Liverpool. He’s a winner.

“That rubs off on the players as well and I could see how demanding he was of the group last week in Portugal.

“The standards he set for himself is why he got to the pinnacle of his profession and was one of the best players in the world. So there’s no surprise there for me. He was an inspiring figure as a player and a real go-to guy with England.

“I looked at him and Lamps as the players who could win us a game on their own. What they did physically and the bits they did after training is what made them the very best.

“And as a manager, that’s what he’ll be expecting from his Rangers players.

“It was nice to see him again. The job Stevie has done is incredible. Rangers are a massive club.

“I was saying to him I remember going to Ibrox for a pre-season game and all around the stadium, the fans stayed to applaud us off the pitch. They get unbelievable support up there.

“And Stevie has made some good signings this year so they’ve got a really good chance to compete with Celtic now.

“Stevie will be desperate for silverware. He’s been used to winning things in his career so that will be his target for Rangers.

“He’ll want to win a trophy for such a huge club and then the fans will really warm to him.

“I can see in the group they’ve got there’s real quality there and they’re closing the gap on Celtic. That was a big job in itself but I think he did that last year. And what Stevie’s done for me is make people down south talk about Rangers again.”
