Naby Keita arrived at Liverpool from RB Leipzig with a lot of promise but most part of the previous season, he was left warming the benches.

It was only during the second half of the campaign that the midfielder truly showed what he capable off and along with Fabinho he became a regular in the Reds midfield.

But the Guinea international then picked up a groin injury in May which forced him to miss the final month of the 2018-19 season.

Naby Keita tough was brought into the Guinea side for the AFCON but now the player has left Egypt to head back to Liverpool.

It looks like the player has received a knock during one of the games and he is back at Liverpool for further assessment.

“Yes, he has gone for a medical consultation [at Liverpool] – as you know he was the victim of a lot of heavy challenges in the game against Nigeria,” Guinea’s press officer, Mamadou Camara said.

“So he consulted with medical staff over there [at Liverpool] and they asked him to come back for two days.

“The idea is that he is here to play in the last 16 but I don’t think we can say he will 100%.”

“After so many heavy tackles, the coach withdrew him before the end of the match and the day after, he was examined here and he tried to do some training but the medicine did not help relieve the pain.

“He picked this injury up in the semi-finals of the European Champions League and he has been training and playing but never at 100% and we have to think about after the Nations Cup.

“I don’t think he can play a full 90 minutes at the moment but if he can start and then be taken off that’s a very good thing.

“The manager will have to keep managing him as he has been doing.”

Now reports are claiming that this fresh injury could mean that Naby Keita is out for the whole summer up until the start of the 2019-20 season.

And being the kind of manager that Jurgen Klopp is, the German will never allow an unfit Naby Keita to get straight back into the first team squad.

So this basically means if this injury is as serious as it is being claimed then the midfielder could miss the first couple of games in the upcoming season.
