Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard was easily one of the busiest managers in Europe this summer as he was given the responsibility of dragging the club out of the hole that they had found themselves in during the past couple of seasons.

And in a bid to do so, the manager has brought in a series of new players during the transfer window and at the same time he has thrown out a number of players who were useless last campaign.

But one player who was not once but twice close to joining Rangers during the current year is Kilmarnock’s, Jordan Jones.

Jones is primarily a midfielder who can play various other positions like on the left wing and also as the second striker. And it is this versatility of the players that prompted Rangers to make a bid for him during the January transfer window.

But Kilmarnock quickly rejected the bid of £350,000 claiming it was at best laughable.

This meant that Jordan Jones was denied his dream move and was forced to stay at Kilmarnock for the remainder of the season.

During the summer, the Light Blues signed Jamie Murphy which immediately squandered any hopes of Jordan Jones moving to Ibrox. But then fate took an unexpected turn.

Murphy was sidelined for the rest of the season with an injury and the Gers were once again on the lookout for a winger. The name of Jordan Jones popped up once again but Steven Gerrard eventually went for Osijek winger Eros Grezda – snubbing the Kilmarnock man once again.

And now Jordan Jones has claimed the past few months were the worst of his life especially with a possible move to Rangers hanging in the balance.

“Yes, it does affect you. It is mental torture, really,” said Jones.

“You are getting told a lot of things and trying to concentrate on football but it is draining. Through those two transfer windows were two of the worst times in my life. But you just have to get back to your football as quickly as possible and let that side of the game take care of itself,”
