Jorginho had a really poor first season with Chelsea under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri but this campaign he is a man transformed.

This season, Jorginho has been the mainstay in the Blues midfield while N’Golo Kante has been out with various injuries. And on Tuesday he had another perfect outing against Ajax in the Champions League.

Chelsea were able to overturn a 1-4 deficit into a 4-4 draw but in all fairness, they should have picked up all three points especially since Ajax went down to nine men with around 20 minutes still to play.

And so speaking after the game, Jorginho has warned his teammates that if they fail to win such key games then they might very well have to say goodbye to their Champions League campaign since their group is still wide open.

“We didn’t win and we should have done,” said Jorginho.

“In this situation when you are with two more players, I think we could win and we should.

“[We have learnt] that we cannot make mistakes, [at] this level of football you can’t. Every single mistake we can lose the game.

“We could play with more calm when we had two more players, not go for goals straight away, pass a little bit more to find space. I think we learnt that we can improve from this game.

“I think the most important thing is we didn’t give up. When it was 4-1, it is hard to believe and we did. It is so important for us.”

Jorginho has been playing constant football this season alongside Mateo Kovacic but he is suspended for Chelsea’s next Premier League encounter vs Crystal Palace.

This means that not will the Italian get some much-deserved rest but N’Golo Kante will get to start in the defensive midfielder’s role after a really long time.
