Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend which means that the Reds have failed to win a league game for the first time this season.

The Reds failed to come up with their A-game on Sunday as Man United chose to play a counter-attacking brand of football. And this tactic worked perfectly for the home side as they were inches away from picking up all three points.

United took the lead through Marcus Rashford and it was only a second-half strike from Adam Lallana that managed to save Liverpool’s blushes.

And speaking after the match, Jurgen Klopp chose to lash out at his managerial counterpart accusing him of playing a defensive brand of football in such a high-profile clash.

“This year, last year, the year before, they just defend,” he told the BBC.

“That’s how it is. It is OK. It is no criticism. It is just a fact.

“When you think about Manchester United against Liverpool, you think both teams are trying like this. But it is not. We try.

“We are the one team where everyone is on their toes when United play against us,

“We don’t have to say it is a compliment. We are a good team. When you play against somebody it is normal for them to think about how they can stop us.”

While Man United fans will surely feel their team have managed to stop Liverpool from picking up all three points, but the reality is that their side played as the second-best side at home.

Some pundits had predicted that Solskjaer would be a bit bolder in his approach since he was playing at home but clearly the manager did not have too much faith in his attacking players.

And it looks like this is the case every time Man United take on a big side(eg, the game vs Spurs last season).

Right now, picking up stray points vs the top-six sides might look good enough but the Norwegian boss will at some point have to come out of hiding and ask his team to play on the front foot.
