Chelsea are being constantly linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz and for the longest time, the Premier League side have been one of the favourites to sign the 21-year-old. But now it looks like the transfer is slipping away from their hands with each passing day.
Kai Havertz has been in sensational form during the 2019-20 season having scored 12 and assisted six goals in just 30 league matches. And right now, apart from Chelsea, a series of other top European club are also eager to bring him on board.
And recent developments have suggested that Chelsea might not be close to signing the youngster, for two main reasons.
The first one being the fact that according to German football expert Rafa Honigstein, the London side are not one of the favourites to sign Havertz, as it was earlier being claimed.
He wrote, as quoted by TEAMtalk: “The Premier League club, Leverkusen and Havertz are currently ‘miles apart’ in terms of striking a potential deal”
“Reports that Chelsea have shown a renewed interest are accurate. Due to the sheer number of potential takers and Bayer’s intransigence, it would be wrong to suggest that Chelsea are somehow in the lead of this race, however,”
And if this news was not dampening enough then according to Bild’s head of football, Christian Falk, La Liga giants Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing the 21-year-old at the end of the current season.
“Leverkusen is a question of money,” Falk told the Football Ranks podcast. “Bayern Munich won’t pay it. Barca won’t pay it. Real Madrid are trying to do a swap deal at the minute.
“However, Leverkusen would prefer to take all a full-cash offer.”
The entry of Real Madrid, if true, is really bad news for Chelsea especially if the Blues miss out on Champions League football next season. While Kai Havertz is ready to join an English side in the summer but we are not sure if the youngster will be too eager to play in the Europa League.
