Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz is wanted by as many as four Premier League clubs this summer but not all of them stand a chance in this transfer race.

Kai Havertz is without a doubt one of the most talented youngsters in Europe right now and as per rumours, clubs like Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal are expected to make a move for him at the end of the 2019-20 season.

All these clubs can use a great attacking midfielder and with just two years left on his current deal, Bayer have accepted that it will really difficult for them to hold onto the German international for too much longer.

Kai Havertz joined Leverkusen’s youth side in 2010 and since then the 20-year-old has worked up through the ranks at the club. During the 2019-20 season, the midfielder has netted six goals and provided five assists in 22 Bundesliga matches so far.

But despite so much interest, there’s only a handful of clubs in Europe who can afford to make a move for Havertz during the upcoming transfer window.

Which Premier League clubs can afford Kai Havertz?

Bayer Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz has made it clear that Kai Havertz will not be sold off for cheap and it will require a really handsome transfer fee to convince the German side to part ways with the midfielder.

Bosz told Algemeen Dagblad, as quoted by talkSPORT: “Kai is 20 years old, but this is already his fourth season in the Bundesliga.

“That says a lot. Everyone in Germany sees him as a child prodigy. He is from Aachen, has been here since he was eight. Nice boy to work with. Intelligent. He also plays the piano. We sold his buddy, Julian Brandt, to Borussia Dortmund last summer. Havertz suddenly became even more of an eye-catcher.

“A lot came to him before the winter break. We lost the derby at Cologne and three days later also at home to Hertha Berlin. Suddenly the entire stadium whistled him off. He was devastated by that. ‘Why do people hate me?’ Then he’s just another 20-year-old and you explain: ‘They don’t hate you, but this is how it goes’.

“During the winter break, we showed him images that he did not reach the box enough. Now he does that more often. His share of goals and assists has skyrocketed. He can’t be held on to next summer. That will be a transfer of €100m (£90m).

“What am I saying? More than €100m.”

If Bayer have really placed a €100 million price tag on Kai Havertz, then surely clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea have already fallen out of the race.

Not only can these London sides not afford to spend so much on a single player this summer but they also need to bring in a number of new signings for the upcoming season.

Manchester City and Liverpool have also been hit by the lockdown but they have really strong ownership who can squeeze out money from their own pockets in order to help the club bring in someone like Kai Havertz.
