Chelsea have finally managed to bring Kai Havertz on board from Bayer Leverkusen, making him their seventh signing of this ongoing transfer window.

The official statement from the Blues read: “The Blues have completed the signing of our second German international this summer with Kai Havertz putting his signature on a five-year contract.”

This is indeed a fine acquisition by Frank Lampard since Kai Havertz is not only a talented player but Premier League rivals Manchester United had also been linked with the German international.

Man United were keeping a keen eye on the proceeding but eventually, they did not rival Chelsea in this transfer race. And now MEN have revealed why Solskjaer chose to back out.

The report claims: “Manchester United had no intention of meeting Kai Havertz’s asking price as they opted against a move for the attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window.

“MEN Sport understand United had no interest in moving for Havertz while they still pursued a deal for priority target Jadon Sancho, with the 21-year-old viewed as a possible alternative to the Borussia Dortmund star rather than an additional signing.

“MEN Sport reported back in June that Havertz was keen to sign for a Premier League side this summer but that he would only consider a move to a team playing in the Champions League.

“It naturally opened the door for a potential move to Old Trafford in the current window following United’s third-placed finish in the Premier League, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side remained focused on pursuing Sancho instead.”

Jadon Sancho is still very much on Ole’s wishlist and despite BVB claiming that Sancho is going to stay, various experts claim that the negotiations are still going on in the background.

If Man United do manage to get their hands on Sancho then it will surely tip the acquisition of Kai Havertz but if the deal falls flat on its face then Chelsea will have pulled off the signing of the summer.
