Premier League side Chelsea are heavily interested in signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen and over the past couple of days, the Blues have received a double boost in this transfer rae.

This season, the 21-year-old has been in top form for Bayer, scoring 12 and assisting six goals in just 30 Bundesliga matches and Bayern Munich up until now have been one of the frontrunners in signing the player.

But recently, Bayern’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has made it clear that his club cannot afford to sign Kai Havertz this summer.

He said, as quoted by Goal: “I’ll be very clear: Financially speaking, we won’t be able to transfer Havertz this year. All of European football, Bayern included, are currently facing major financial challenges for as long as it is not possible to play in front of spectators again.

“It’s a decision that Bayer Leverkusen and the player have to make [whether he leaves]. To be honest, I would also like for Havertz to stay in Leverkusen for at least another year, because we want to have competition.”

And if this was not enough good news for Chelsea, then Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller has now confirmed that the youngster will be allowed to leave if they get the right transfer value for him.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Voller said, as per Sports Lens: “We have an agreement – if it fits, he can go this summer.

“As of now, he is a player of ours. We have our ideas, we know what he can do.

“I personally hope he stays one more year. Of course, you can’t force anyone. Havertz knows what he owes to his colleagues, the fans and the club.”

With two years still left on his current deal, Kai Havertz will obviously not come cheap but with Bayern Munich backing off, Chelsea now have a concrete chance of signing the midfielder, if they can afford him after paying substantial fees for Ziyech and Timo Werner.
