Chelsea are trying to bring in a new keeper during the upcoming transfer window in order to replace the faulting Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The player was brought in from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6 million in 2018 but this season he has been one of the poorest performers for the Blues. He’s made a series of very silly errors which have ended up costing Chelsea precious points all throughout the campaign.

And it is the main reason is why Frank Lampard is planning to send him off and bring in a new shot-stopper for the 2020-21 season.

This though will be easier said than done since the manager will first have to find a buyer for Kepa Arrizabalaga which as per ESPN is proving to be a tough task.

ESPN have reported: “Chelsea are struggling to drum up interest in goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, sources have told ESPN.

“Manager Frank Lampard is open to selling the Spain international after dropping him for six games in January and February.

“Chelsea face a dilemma about how to move forward with their goalkeeper situation. No. 2 Willy Caballero is set to leave at the end of the season, and the club are exploring the option of signing another senior goalkeeper to compete with Kepa.”

The player is out of contract at Chelsea in 2025 and right now the Blues are demanding a massive transfer fee for the Spaniard which is why the club cannot find any suitors right now.

Also, the player is currently earning £150,000 a week at Chelsea which is beyond the reach of many clubs in Europe, especially after these current lockdowns.

So if Lampard really wants to bring in someone like Nick Pope or Andre Onana then he will have to drastically drop the asking price for Kepa Arrizabalaga so that a couple of clubs are at least inclined to make inquires about him.

This will also mean Chelsea will have to pay for their new keeper mostly out of their pockets but still, that’s much more acceptable rather than keeping a £71.6 million player on the bench for the next season.
