Arsenal have been scouting Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland all throughout this current season but they will not be making a move for him in the summer – as per ESPN.

The player was originally the choice of former Gunners boss Unai Emery but now Mikel Arteta has decided not to pursue the 27-year-old for a number of reasons.

ESPN are reporting: “Things could have been very different for Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland had Unai Emery remained in charge of Arsenal.

“Sources have told ESPN that Arsenal regularly scouted the star during 2019 and had even reached out to intermediaries to sound both the club and player out over their interest in a possible transfer.

“However, Emery was sacked at the end of November and although Volland continued to be monitored as a possible target during Freddie Ljungberg’s spell as interim boss, the situation changed soon after Mikel Arteta’s appointment on Dec. 20.”

Should Arsenal try and sign Kevin Vollan?

Kevin Volland joined Bayer in 2016 and this season he’s managed to net nine goals and provide eight assists in just 22 Bundesliga matches which would indicate that he could just be the right man for Arsenal.

But Arteta has major doubts over his abilities and on top of that, the manager also feels he needs to sort out the futures of a number of his current players before trying to bring in a new signing.

And while we totally agree with this decision but Kevin Volland could have been the perfect replacement to someone like Alexandre Lacazette for the upcoming season.

The forward is valued at €28 million by TransferMarkt but he has only one more year left on his current contract which means Arsenal would have had every opportunity to sign him for a real cut-price deal in the summer.

Arteta though does not seem too confident in signing him up and maybe the manager is confident he will be able to hold onto Alexandre Lacazette beyond the summer.
