Chelsea have been linked with a move for PSG forward Edinson Cavani during the January transfer window – as per reports.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at PSG at the end of the current season and the Ligue 1 club have confirmed that the player has handed in a transfer request in order to move out this month.

And it looks like Chelsea are one of the many clubs who are interested in signing Edinson Cavani in order to solve their goalscoring crisis.

The Chelsea manager has already confirmed that Olivier Giroud will be heading out of the club this month meaning he is bound to bring in a player who can team up with Tammy Abraham upfront.

And when Lampard was asked about making a move for Cavani, the manager certainly tried to keep it as positive as possible.

‘There’s nothing absolutely imminent,’ the manager told the press.

‘We’re looking but there’s nothing to tell you that might happen right away. Cavani is a great player.

“I played against him and always loved his mentality and attitude, and obviously his goalscoring record speaks for itself. I’m not aware of his situation so we’ll see.

‘He’s an experienced player but so are many other players out there. We are young as a squad and we know about the transition so the idea of bringing in experience is something I’m certainly not looking absolutely away from because sometimes the younger players need a bit of help and that may help us.

‘Long-term in January is very difficult so short-term is something we would look at because there are issues that are pressing for this season and for us now to finish where we want to get to.

“It’s something that we are looking at.’

As per the latest reports, Chelsea have already made contact with PSG over the transfer of Edinson Cavani but the rumours also suggest the Premier League club are yet to make an official bid for the 32-year-old.
