Laurent Koscielny Arsenal news

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is expected to leave the club this summer after the defender handed in a transfer request – as per reports.

The club captain refused to join the rest of the squad on their pre-season tour to America and the club released an official statement which clearly indicated a rift between the two parties.

“Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the US for our pre-season tour,” the statement read.

“We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.

“We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”

Unai Emery had claimed that the transfer of Laurent Koscielny is a decision which only the club management will take and last week there were reports that the centre-back had agreed on a deal to join French club Rennes.

Now though the club’s president has come out to make it clear that no deal has been agreed between them and Laurent Koscielny.

“We learned about [the so-called agreement] like you,” Létang told Foot Mercato(as reported by Football365).

“Even my son told me it seems Koscielny is on his way.

“I told him that was false. He’s a good player with a lot of experience at international level.

“We met him twice last year. When we heard there was a chance he could leave in early June, we called Arsenal to ask if that was true because we could be interested.

“Around mid-June, they got back to us and told us they wanted to renew him. He wasn’t for sale.

“We haven’t had any more talks with the player. We have great respect for other clubs. We can’t talk with a player if the team don’t want him to leave, so I can say what came out this weekend is false and isn’t current.

“No, we haven’t spoken to Arsenal since mid-June. For me, there’s no point talking with the player if the door isn’t open.”
