The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off in Russia about a week ago and in these 7 odd days, we have come across a series of very bizarre results.

A lot of the so-called big teams have fallen prey to the minnows and fans now are very precarious before predicting a game’s result.

Very few people can outright claim that one certain team will win a particular match – given the unpredictability of the tournament.

But if you are a group of leaf-cutter ants then its a whole different thing.

At the Cannon Hall Farm, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, a colony of leaf-cutter ants have been used to predict the outcome of the England vs Panama game scheduled to be played on Sunday.

Two of the ants were racing along a 36-metre long rope carrying an England and Panama flag each and it was the ant carrying the England flag who won the race.

So it’s quite natural that England are going to win.

Richard Nicholson, of the Cannon Hall Farm, said: “It’s a bit of fun for the World Cup. We have leaf cutter ants in one glass box and they get their food in another.

“They kept overtaking each other, so maybe the match will be closer than we expect.

“I was born in the year we won the World Cup so I’m forever hopeful that we’ll win, to be honest.

“We’ve got to live and hope.

“I made them[the flags] out of edible paper and ink – I was surprised they picked them up actually, they are surprisingly willing to carry most things.”

Move over Paul the Octopus, the era of ants has arrived.
